BB30 The Low Down
Being that we stock Cannondale the amount of times that “BB30” comes gushing from our mouths is on the rise….along with the returned puzzled looks.
Thought I’d take a moment to try and explain this magical thing of which we speak.
BB30 isn’t new, Cannondale has been doing it for a while now. It’s basically an oversized bottom bracket shell that removes the need for external bearing cups and accepts larger, direct fit, pressed in bearings.
This in turn means that the crank spindle length is reduced but diameter increased and can be made from aluminum thus saving weight with increased stiffness.
The oversized bb shell creates a greater surface area for the seat and down tubes to attach thus making it a stiffer intersection at the bb so power is transfered directly into the wheels and forward movement.
