Cycles Bespoke Reviews

Pivot Mach 5.

We have just added a 2010 Pivot Mach 5 to our demo fleet and I have been riding it over the last 2 weeks.

These bikes have been getting rave reviews from all the sites and mags for a while now and all I can say is that they certainly live up to expectations.

The biggest factor that makes these bikes so good is the DW linkage. It’s a big claim to say it eliminates ‘bob’ but it really does both in and out of the saddle. That combined with the asymmetric stays for lateral stiffness makes for a bike that climbs like a hard-tail with amazing traction.
Getting on the gas out of corners on single track is another area these bikes excel. They ride like a much lighter bike just because the pedalling action is so efficient. Giving you a bike that feel nippy and maneuverable through tight sections without washing off speed to do so.

Downhill 5 inches of travel is always going to be fun. They hold their line and track beautifully.

The Mach-5 can be set up numerous ways whether it be more cross country orientated or slow slung with lots of travel up front for a more trail bike set-up. As Chris puts it: “They’re a long legged cross country bike”.

Being that we are coming up to the end of the 2010 bike year there are deals to be had on Mach-5’s and for 2011 they are re-named Mach 5.7 with a bit more travel, tapered head tube and slightly reworked rear end.

We have the demo bike here so make the most of it or join us on the Wednesday night shop ride.
