Shiny Object Inflator by Portland Design Works

After the weekend bash out on the trail I felt compelled to review the Shiny Object by Portland Design Works. Using co2 inflators has become pretty stock standard but so is never getting quite enough pressure out of them and they usually need a top-up with a hand-pump.

These inflator heads are very well designed using a pressure dial that regulates how fast the co2 is released not to mention very good seals that don’t allow any gas escape. My previous inflator head was never able to get more than around 20 psi into my standard 26”x 2.1” presta valve tube however after an initial trial run, code for me bolloxing it up and wasting a cartridge, I was able to get much closer to 30 psi. Far better for completing a ride with security.

As stated I did need a trail run because there is such a good seal around the valve, no gas is lost you can blow the head off the valve if you release the gas to quickly with the control dial. Securing your hand around and behind the head and tube resolves this.

Apart from great functionality the PDW Shiny Object looks damn cool. Shiny, sleek and polished it will certainly be the envy of your riding buddies when you fix a puncture in record time.
